When Gunfire Erupts

February 28, 2020

Aaron Fajardo did not expect gunshots when responding to a car crash near his station.

Aaron was responding to a call about a two-vehicle collision that was right up the street from the fire station. He and his partner arrived on the scene before law enforcement. Aaron went straight to work tending to an injured patient from one of the vehicles, but just a few moments later he heard gunshots. The driver of the other vehicle had begun firing her pistol. Aaron shielded his patient with his body, then when there was a break in the gunfire he dragged his patient from the line of fire and secured cover for the two of them until law enforcement arrived.

Aaron remembers not having even a second to think about what to do, and he said that thankfully his instincts kicked in and he was able to act quickly to make sure that everyone on the scene was safe.
